Keyword Analysis: Can’t Do Without These Gems

by Amy Derby on July 1, 2008

Since this is no longer an income-generating blog, I check my stats here mostly only out of curiosity. When I need a good laugh, I skim through the list of recent keywords folks googled to find me here at write-from-home.com. My favorites this week:

1) schizophrenia and perfectionism

2) crazy new syndromes

3) i have a nutjob working for me

4) reality show and nocturnal custom cabinets

5) pantyhose obsession confessions

The best part? Even though none of these folks found what they were looking for, every one of them stuck around and clicked on at least two more pages. (And none were spammers.) Must say something for my exquisite wit and fine writing skills, eh? [insert giggles here]

Care to share any crazy, arbitrary results from YOUR recent keyword analysis???

I don’t have any crazy ones, but most everyone who ends up on my site from google search results are searching for “tired eyes”, “burning eyes”, “itching eyes”… Weird, huh? They come to this post of mine: Relief for Tired Eyes. Crazy…

Then there are a few actually searching for something to do with writing.

Yours are way more interesting!

Michele - Now I’m going to have to go read about how to cure my tired eyes. LOL

I have a lot of people searching for writing stuff, too. But none of that is funny like schizophrenia is. ;-)

3 Michele 07.01.08 at 11:31 am

Oh, I hope my tip helps your eyes! :-)

You’re right, the schizophrenia one is funny. I wonder what they think when they search for that and find you! ;-)

the key word is just the first step, but it is the quality of the blog that makes quality readers …

Avital — very true. I agree.

Michele — how in the world did you find that? :-)

9 Michele 07.01.08 at 1:03 pm

I found it at Plurk ;-) Someone plurked it and I had to go try it. The e-mails I’ve sent… ooohhhh, the FUN! Folks think they have a virus! ;-)

I’d say I’d try the emailing thing, but the lawyers I write for already seem to see things backwards, so they probably wouldn’t notice. I’m fairly certain some of them type with their feet.

P.S. Plurk looks scary.

11 Michele 07.01.08 at 1:42 pm

Funny about the lawyers typing with their feet. :-)

Um, scary bad or scary good?

Michele’s last blog post..Weekend Fun = Memes and Flips

12 Amy 07.01.08 at 1:42 pm

Scary bad. What does it do?

13 Michele 07.01.08 at 1:44 pm

Ooooooooooh, no… It’s like Twitter. Instead of twittering, you’re plurking.

Michele’s last blog post..Weekend Fun = Memes and Flips

14 Amy 07.01.08 at 1:45 pm

Ah. I don’t use twitter. I have enough addictions and 12 step groups already. :-)

15 Michele 07.01.08 at 1:47 pm

So, you mean it’s like scary bad for you, or just in general? It is kind of addictive…

I meant for me. I know a lot of people who do twitter and love it. But I’d fall into a black hole and never get anything done ever again. I know myself well enough to stay away from stuff like that. And chatrooms. And solitaire. LOL

17 Michele 07.01.08 at 2:45 pm

Yeah, I’ve stayed away from Twitter like it was the plague and now here I am plurking… go figure! ;-)

Amy,

I get some good ones. In the past week my oddest were “list of 70s bowling ball manufacturers” and “james chartrand email contact 2008.” ??

MCE’s been light on the McDonald’s searchers this week, though there are usually tons of those. Apparently many people think McDonald’s can unlock the secrets of the universe for them.

Nocturnal custom cabinets—awesome! By day, of course, they’re not custom. Used a lot in reality shows, are they?

Scary for me: Twitter and the Pen Men’s new game. I’ve seen people swallowed up by each of them. I’m not knocking them for other folks (especially Escaping Reality, which is a very interesting thing), but I steer clear just in case I might fall into the time-suck vortex. I never have enough time as is!

Hmm, I think I’m in the vortex right now. Better go be useful.

Until later,

Kelly

Amy,Just remember to use a great tool that i use called: One day at a time,if the need arises go to the 5 minuite at a time.I have done that more times that I can account for.

Michele - The fact that “plurking” is now a verb makes me shake my head the way my grandfather used to when I first told him I could get him his favorite records on a cassette tape.

Kelly - People google James and end up here too. That’s too funny. There was a Seinfeld episode where George had a desk customized with shelves and such where he could sleep under it. I talked about that on my smoking blog, ironically, months and months ago. That’s the closest thing I know of… Oh, and you get five gold stars for being the only online person I know NOT on twitter. *passes the stickers*

21 Amy 07.01.08 at 2:56 pm

Mike - I use the five minute at a time thing quite often too. Sometimes five seconds…

22 Michele 07.01.08 at 3:03 pm

Oh, what’s even crazier, Amy, is older folks trying to figure out how photos can be on the tv screen (on a cd). :-) And… I’m not on Twitter either! Do I get a sticker? hehehe

Oh, and if you lost Functional Shmunctional in the 2008 crash, you probably lost Derfwad Manor too! ;-)

I got something in my spam about big black anal ass (something like that). Most of my search engine terms seem pretty tame. I got a big spike on What are You Fishing for? Which I attribute to people looking for fishing tips. Literal trips.

I haven’t looked at Plurk yet. Twitter is annoying. I turn it on occasionally. But it gets a lot of error messages and loses messages. Sucks for messages.

I’m not any good at keyword stuff. I know how to do it but it gets boring. Maybe I’ll try it sometime. Blah!

Michele - I really shouldn’t give you a sticker, since you’re on the twitter ripoff, but oooooookkkkkaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy. *passes stickers to Michele* Hehe. Oh, and thanks. I did lose that one too!! (See why I have no time for twitter? LOL)

Ellen - I think it’s funny. You think it’s boring. Well, I’d probably agree that it is boring, except when there is funny stuff like big black anal ass. Because, isn’t an anal ass kind of redundant?

26 Kelly 07.01.08 at 3:23 pm

Amy,

(This is proof that I check my email too much.)

That Chartrand guy should get a blog. I want my own stalkers, darn it.

Thanks for the stickers. I tried to give some to Harry once, but he was already in the vortex.

For checking in with people personally, I have real life. And email… and blog comments… :) I’m too connected for my own good right now.

Later,

Kelly

27 Amy 07.01.08 at 3:37 pm

Kelly - your stalkers probably end up on someone elses blog. hehe. I have the email addiction too. Email is just the less annoying for me. I hate the phone, and I’m not a good listener. If its in writig I can reread until I “get it” and respond when I have time. Phone calls quickly degenerate into me being conferenced into calls with people I dong need to talk to. I would love to give up both. Dream big, right? Take it easy. I’m going to eat now.

28 Michele 07.01.08 at 6:14 pm

I thought you’d say that, Amy, after I hit submit. *accepts stickers proudly* hehehehe ;-) And you’re welcome. I remember you liking both those blogs…

29 Amy 07.01.08 at 6:52 pm

I’m getting too predictable. Hehe. ;-)

30 Ellen Wilson 07.01.08 at 7:03 pm

I thought it was weird, so I didn’t click on it. It’s probably porn. And that is very redundant.

I noticed that the spammers are getting pretty clever in trying to slip by the filters, they say things like, “I agree with some of your comments but not all of them…”

Ellen — I have a spammer who says “I liked this post about Amy Grant but don’t agree with it.” It makes me chuckle. Another dude who sells coffee pots says something like yours. I feel bad for these people. How boring must their days be.

32 steph 07.02.08 at 8:58 am

I don’t use Twitter either. I have a hard enough time just keeping up with the blogs I like to read.

Those google searches are hilarious! I find they can be great post ideas. One of my recent google searches was “Can a wuss be a freelancer?” I wrote “Freedom Fighter” based on it. Mostly I get “other words for…” stuff about anniversaries (my husband doesn’t care about our sixth anniversary, letter to my husband on our anniversary, surprise my husband on our anniversary, etc.), and how smart people think. The most puzzling recent one was “I’m talking about the American dream hop.” I think it may have been cut off.

Steph - The American dream hop one is funny!! (Oh, and five gold stars for you for not using Twitter. Hehe)
