When Michael Stelzner put out his call for nominations for best writing blog last week, I realized that the list of my favorites has grown so long that I would have a hard time coming up with a top ten list, let alone choosing one favorite to nominate for a contest.
But what if I had to trim my reading down to my absolute faves? I considered and reconsidered, and here they are, in no particular order of their loveliness:

Thanks for a great compilation Amy, and for including Confident Writing in your list
Joanna
Yay! You love me!
James Chartrand - Men with Pens’s last blog post..Getting Distance or Going All the Way
It has been fun to look at the list over there. I’ve found a new handful of writing blogs.
Writer Dad’s last blog post..Wiped Out and Ready For More
This is a great list here. I see some that I have in my Google Reader but haven’t visited in a long time. I think I’ll make myself an egg salad sandwich and browse through them all today. Oh wait, I’m supposed to be working.
Karen Putz’s last blog post..I Want to Live–Captioned Version
Well, it’s not strictly a freelance blog yet (because I haven’t figured out how to actually DO freelance while still working a full-time job), but mine IS a writing blog … Does that count? (grin)
–Deb’s last blog post..MM: May vs Can
Amy, you captured many of my favorites but you missed one - Write From Home!
Thank you for the mention Amy. Not having a niche is my niche!
John Hewitt’s last blog post..PD30 Day 2: Generally Be Specific
Joanna — Any time. I love your blog.
James — Of COURSE I love you.
Writer Dad — I haven’t had the chance to look at the list yet this year. Last year I did though, and that is how I found some of the blogs that are now my favorites.
So you’re right. I should pop over and snoop…
Karen — I’m supposed to be working too. Shhhhh, don’t tell.
Deb — I didn’t know you had a writing blog. I only knew about the knitting one. Must go see.
Ok, I’m back. Grammar. UGH!!!!!! No, just kidding.
Karen — Yours is quickly becoming one of my favorites, even though I sorta just found it.
John — Not having a niche is a good niche. LOL I always enjoy reading about poetry and learning about technical writing at the same time. Multitasking, yes? Tis good.
Hi Amy - I know a lot of these blogs and like them. And I’ll definitely be checking the others out. It was tough to choose but I voted for Writers Manifesto, as I love Monika’s positivity and her honest writing style.
Cath Lawson’s last blog post..Shit: The Best Tool For Success
Cath — Yours is another of my new favorites. Sigh. See? This is why I can’t choose just one to nominate. I can’t even choose ten. LOL
Hey Amy, these are some of my favorites too. But you forgot one: Write from Home
Melissa Donovan’s last blog post..September News & Announcements
Melissa — I think there are a lot of better-quality freelance writing blogs out there than my own, but thank you.
You know… I think writing blogs are the hardest… because they’re all unique. After all, writing is what we do well! So it’s hard coming up with a list of top blogs — instead I just compile a list of high quality blogs that I keep in my blog.
Meryl — I very much agree. The ones I read regularly are all very different, but inspiring or helpful in their own very different ways. Yours would be another on my list of new finds that I love. It’s getting to the point where I need a whole day or two a week to catch up on my blog reading. LOL
Thanks so much for including my blog on this list, Amy. Many of my faves are here too.
Sharon Hurley Hall’s last blog post..The Inside Scoop On Ghostwriting
Sharon — You’re welcome. Loving the ghostwriting posts.
These are definitely some great blogs, here, Amy! Excellent choices!
Cheers!
Jeanne
Thanks Jeanne!
Hi, Amy -
Great list — I see some new ones that I look forward to reading!
(I actually nominated your blog on Michael Stelzner’s blog.)
Rebecca Smith’s last blog post..The scoundrels’ dictionary
Amy,
There are two new ones here for me to go check out! (Gee thanks…I needed more…) I will be going to check them right away, if they are as good as the others on the list, I am sure they are soon to become quick favorites. ( even though I really, really have SO MUCH FREE TIME FOR THIS
:) )
You know I’m going to read them anyway.
Wendi Kelly’s last blog post..Changing Colors
Rebecca — Oh wow, thanks! Guess I’d better go check that out.
Wendi — I know the feeling. I’m not up to a total of 50 or so blogs I read daily. I don’t even comment on half of them anymore because I don’t have time to go back and participate in the discussion. Kinda sad, eh?
Amy,
It’s very sad. It will be even sadder if you put me on that list. I will miss you at my blog. Please don’t do it. But I understand… I have the same problem..I can’t keep up. I am trying to rotate around the best I can. Its hard. After awhile there has to be some choices, Like there are some folks who never ever participate in LLI conversations and then those that do, do you put them first? How do people choose? I could literally spend 40 hours a week just commenting. I mean I could..but I can’t. There isn’t that kind of time.
Wendi Kelly’s last blog post..Changing Colors
Wendi — I know. I could too. At this point my system is commenting on my very favorite posts as they appear in my feed reader, but not subscribing to comments. Then on the weekends (or if I have a sort of slow day) I try to get to the others. Sometimes doesn’t happen. I try hard to visit all the people who comment here (many are already on my reading list) but sometimes that doesn’t happen either. Soon I will have to figure out a new system, because this one is crashing my brain. LOL
Amy,
You are a link-post glutton for punishment lately! A couple of new ones for me to check out, I second Wendi in saying Oh, no, because anything you like to read is bound to be something I like to read.
Wendi,
Where can I get a job as a blog-commenter (that pays what I make now, of course). I would have a butt as big as Chicago from sitting on it all day, but boy would I feel plugged-in. Heck, I might even have time for Twitter. Should I put my résumé on LinkedIn?
Employment wanted: 40 hr/wk job fawning over my favorite bloggers. NO, not your faves, mine! Pay me to play!
Every couple of months I hear that the End of Blogging is near, and I think, thank goodness. Then I can catch up.
Regards,
Kelly
Kelly’s last blog post..Inspiration Points: How Much Money Should You Be Charging?
Kelly — Maybe we could go into business together if people are hiring for folks to comment on their fave blogs. As far as twitter, as much as I was against joining because I’m a crackaddictish personality, I’ve met so many cool people on it that it has been worth it — some are actually good business contacts. Not trying to talk you into joining, but just admitting I was wrong.
Amy,
*I* was worried about you joining because you’re a crackaddictish personality, ho ho.
Oh, don’t worry about talking me into it, it’s been tried. I know there’s no more time in the day, so I’d have to boot something else. What would I boot, personal stuff or work stuff? Neither. Not worth it to me.
Later,
Kelly
Kelly’s last blog post..Inspiration Points: How Much Money Should You Be Charging?
Kelly — At least if you hold out I will always have you to drag me back to sanity when I hit bottom. LOL
Well, it’s not JUST about grammar–only on Mondays!
–Deb’s last blog post..MM: May vs Can
Deb — Oh good. Grammar scares me.
Hi Amy,
Thank you so much for including me amongst many of my favorite writing blogs. I feel honored. I just remembered to check my incoming links and saw the trackback from you. Sorry for being late.
@ Cath: Wow, I feel double honor for getting your vote. I wasn’t even aware of that. How cool. Thank you so much.
I love all the blogs above and I think I’m even subscribed to all of them, except maybe Poewar. Have to rectify this right now.
Monika Mundell’s last blog post..Workshops, Zombies And Large Noses
Hi Monika!
I’m behind on just about everything I think.
Please do comment and discuss.
We love a good conversation!
Please use a name when commenting. Does not have to be your real name or full name. But responding to folks calling themselves "Make Money Writing Online" and such kinda sucks. Calling yourself keywords will likely get you thrown into my spam filter.
