I spend much of the weekend, when I’m not working, playing catch-up. A lot of what I find myself catching up on is reading, from scanning the news for topics related to my clients’ blogs to visiting the writing blogs I missed during the week. This weekend I’ve already spent several hours reading ebooks, and I’m planning to squeeze in a few more reading hours.
This morning I made it through a review copy of The Ultimate Guide to a Successful Freelance Writing Career (an ok book, but not one destined to hit my list of recommendations at $49).
Onto the free stuff:
This afternoon I re-read Debbie Weil’s Free Ebook Beginner’s Guide to Business Blogging (excellent basic info for corporate folks who want to blog or for anyone who wants to freelance write for a business blog). If you like the free ebook and want more than the basics, I also highly recommend Debbie’s Corporate Blogging Book, which I read last month and have recommended to dozens of people (including a few lawyers).
Now I’m about halfway through JohnCow.com’s Free Ebook Building a Business NOT a Blog (pretty good so far).
On tomorrow’s to-read list: Chris Garrett’s Free Ebook Killer Flagship Content and Brian Clark’s Free Ebook Viral Copy: Trading Words for Traffic.
What are YOU reading this weekend?
P.S., Another great free ebook for freelance writers I was just made aware of: The Street Smart Writer: Self Defense Against Sharks and Scams in the Writing World by Jenna Glatzer and Daniel Steven (I’ve read this book in hard copy and highly recommend it to any freelance writer)

Hi Amy - You get through a lot of ebooks. This weekend, I mostly catching up on blog posts I missed whilst on vacation. I’m also referring back to Liz Strauss’s ebook for successful blogging. I loved it so much that it kept me up all night.
The Street Smart Writer sounds like something I’d definitely be interested in reading.
Cath Lawson’s last blog post..Business Ideas: Can You Keep A Secret?
Cath — The ebooks have been piling up for a while. I’ve just now decided to finally make time to read them. If it’s any indication, I have two other review copies of ebooks that have been sitting in my inbox since March.
What did you think of Liz Strauss’s ebook? I assume it’s good, since you’re referring back to it? I haven’t read it.
P.S., to Cath and anyone else interested in the Street Smart writer — I highly recommend picking up a hard copy. The free online version is a nice promo, but now that I’ve taken a look at how the publisher set up the online viewing, it isn’t the easiest way to read a book online. (Although it’s free — so I’m not complaining!) I do think it’s a book worth putting a few dollars into, at least for a used copy on Amazon.
Wow, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this new design, Amy! Way to go, girl! It’s awesome!
And, I’m not a fan of reading ebooks at all because I love holding the book in my hands and besides, my eyes get tired of staring at the computer screen! When I’m ready to read a book, I want it to be relaxing and not stressful for me or my eyes.
I have been getting requests to write an ebook, though, about juice fasting and health. It’s something I’ve thought about for a while so I’m going to do it even though I’ve just never understood the ebook thing myself. I guess I’m just weird! hehehe

Hey Michele — Thanks! I’m still trying to decide if the blue paper background is too blinding. Is it blinding to you? I read so many pdf documents for work that I agree with you about not wanting to feel like I’m going blind with reading ebooks. That’s why I have saved all these up for so long. If there is an option to buy a book in hard copy form, I will usually do that. But if it’s free as an ebook, I will usually download it. Even if it sucks, at least it was free.
I think you would do well with writing a juice fasting ebook. You seem to have a pretty big following online, so at least you know your friends would buy it.
You’re welcome, Amy. I truly was blown away when I arrived here. I think you should leave it myself. I don’t think it’s blinding at all. Honestly, I think it’s stunningly beautiful! I just love the pieces of paper and the blue is so pretty! It’s very tasteful and NICE. Did you really DIY? Sheesh! I’m almost jealous - but you know I’m not the jealous type.
As for the ebooks, I forgot I do have one to read (about SEO) but I think it’s the first ebook for me. Other than a couple of market ones, which were really just mostly writing markets so it wasn’t a lot of reading like all at once.
So, you really think I have that big of a following? Wow. I’m so honored to have you say that!

Amy,
Thanks for these recomendations. I am bookmarking this. although I have to say, I will take a hard copy book any time over an e-book. I find it harder to read online and I do enough blog reading to want to go to a hard book when I get away from my computer.
Oh, I like the new design too. I tried to come to your site and Friday and couldn’t upload you. I was sad
Glad I got you back.

Michele — Yes, I really do think you have a big following.
At least a bigger one than I do, I’m pretty sure. LOL
Oh, and I didn’t design the blog myself. I uploaded the paper background and a banner image, but that’s it. Could you imagine how badly I would break the blog if I tried to build one myself? I would probably take down half the internet with me. LOL But thank you. I am glad you like the new design. It is starting to grow on me.
Wendi — There you are. Yay. I’m not sure what happened Friday, but I’m sorry you couldn’t get in.
I did the theme switch late last night, because I get the least amount of traffic late Sunday nights. (Some of you people sleep. Go figure.) And it was a good thing I didn’t try to do it during the day, because I ran into a lot of problems, being a tech-unsavvy dummy, and it took a lot longer than I thought it would! I am glad you like the new design. I’m just happy the commentluv thing really still works. I would miss that. I like seeing everyone’s last post.
Thank you Amy for sharing your wonderful resources. I’ve been looking for some good tutorials and writing-related ebooks for a while and luckily, I’ve found your site. These will help me with my essay writing projects and other stuffs.
Thanks for visiting! Happy you found something here to be useful.
