Counting Sheep (Or, Sleepy Chick Joins Twitter)

by Amy Derby on August 20, 2008

bah.jpgWhen insomnia strikes for more than three days straight, I lose brain cells and forget all the really good reasons I had not to be like everybody else. I’ve cyber-smacked friends for their sheepery. And now I too have fallen from grace. I invite you all to follow me and/or to comment-drop your twitter ID’s so that I may stalk you in return. (I’m a lazy stalker.)

Expect to read really exciting life developments such as “cleaning up rabbit poop” and “brewing third pot of coffee at noon.”

Oh, and if your name is Harold (or if that isn’t your name but I call you that anyway), be prepared for me to stalk you with random stupid questions about how to make Twitter work properly after I break it.

Cheers,
twit sheep # 8 million

Really, insomnia is a gross feeder. It will nourish itself on any kind of thinking, including thinking about not thinking.

But remember, when you have insomnia, you’re never really asleep, and you’re never really awake.

O bed! O bed! delicious bed!
That heaven upon earth to the weary head.

Have a DREAMful sleep

Uh oh, another unsuspecting freelancer sucked into Twitter! Whoosh! Be sure to stay off of it now and then or you’ll forget to feed the rabbit.

OK, I went and followed, learned something new about you and sent you a direct message. How’s that? But…I got to tell you, don’t be too disapointed in me, my twitter behavior is dismal. I go on, write something, then something shiny goes by and I run off, completly forgetting I was ever on twitter in the first place. I come back hours later only to find that someone actually responded and now that I want to talk to them again they have been gone for hours. I stink at it.

Amy,

OMG. I am now the last virtual holdout.

It’s weird. Not a one of my real-world friends, family, or colleagues even reads a blog, nevermind has extra time in their day for Twitter. I’m considered a maniac who’s giving up sleep for the 2.0 world already.

Now no one I “know” well online doesn’t find time for both. I don’t know if I’m an overachiever or an underachiever, but I do know my plate is full. *sigh*

Have fun!

Regards,

Kelly

Ohh…Twitter. I dunno.

It’s like Crack Cocaine.

I know if I tried it, I’d get hooked. And I waste too much time blogging as it is!

Roy — I sometimes feel like I’m dreaming when I’m awake, so I do believe you’re right. ;-)

Kelly and Friar — I am sorry to leave the sane club. Keep my seat warm in case I wish to return. Hehe.

Brett — I just figured out how to send you a direct message. (I think.) Be proud. (Maybe.)

Steph — Yay! I’m glad you like it. :-)

11 Amy Derby 08.21.08 at 11:41 am

Karen and Wendi — Sorry about that. Your comments were hijacked into the moderation. Eek.

Wendi — I see you are following me now, but I didn’t get your direct message. I think Twitter ate it. :-( I’m like that too, with the bright shiny objects…

Karen — Yes, I’m a huge addict, so I’m going to have to try very hard not to be on it constantly. The rabbits get pretty obnoxious if I skip a meal though, so no worries there. They stand up like little meerkats and beg. :-)

Mary — I just added you to my follow list. Yay. :-) How is the freelance writing going for you so far? I had a hard time in the beginning.

14 Brett Legree 08.21.08 at 1:24 pm

@Amy,

It worked! (I can’t tweet back at work, though… site is blocked, and so is the port on the firewall)

Brett — I feel your pain. In my former corporate office life, they blocked our aim. Fortunately I had a friend in IT. ;-) Mean twitter blockers.

Michele, aren’t you on Twitter too?

18 Michele 08.21.08 at 1:48 pm

Nope. I’m already plurked to death. *giggles* I’ve thought about joining but then a lot of the Twittering folks who have joined Plurk are saying Plurk is way better than Twitter - some have pretty much quit Twittering, I think. I can’t say that because I’ve never used Twitter. I only know how Plurk operates so it wouldn’t be fair of me to say Plurk is better than Twitter. Wow, lots of Twitter and Plurk talk in this comment! Makes your head spin a little doesn’t it. ;-)

Ah well, can’t win ‘em all! :-)

19 Amy Derby 08.21.08 at 1:50 pm

Hmm.. I joined Twitter because I’d heard more people were on that than on Plurk, and I only wanted to join one thing. If I cry and pout will you join Twitter? LOL

20 Michele 08.21.08 at 2:29 pm

Hmmm…. I don’t know. I’m kinda partial to Plurk - and the wittle emoticons are too awesome! Oh, and there’s a timeline that scrolls sideways. There’s like little strips of plurks here and there and when you click on them, they come down and are shaped like post-it notes. That’s where all the responses are. It’s like a blog’s comment thread. So, everyone’s responses are in that one place. Twittering folks say it’s much better than Twitter because you can have an actual conversation in one place for each different thought, question, etc. Really neat. ;-)

But I totally understand about joining one thing. The networking sites can be overwhelming! I’m Stumbling, Squidooing, Hubbing, Plurking, blogging… I’m a member of LinkedIn, CWC, and others. And, that’s just off the top of my head. Passwords alone will drive a person bonkers!

*smiles*
I’m MicheleT on Plurk

*intentional W in the word wittle ;-)

P.S. Don’t know if this little guy will show up or not but he’s my fave! —> (g_lol)

Oh, and I do love how you’ve incorporated the flying papers into your Twitter background! You awesome techy girl, you! :-)

Maybe I will look into plurk this weekend. After my root canal. Ick. :-(

“Plurk” sounds like a tooth being yanked out, doesn’t it? LOL

22 Michele 08.21.08 at 2:39 pm

Oh, a root canal? Never had one of those - thank goodness! Hope I never do either. Maybe you’ll feel better fast after it’s done! (Wishful thinking?)

Plurk is a crazy name. I like it, though. Plurkers are making up all kinds of silly word variations with it: PYL = Plurk ya later. Then there’s plurksy. And plurksination = procrastination. Silly, eh? :-)

Hey, pick you up some organic Greek yogurt to eat while your mouth is healing. It’s cool and creamy and delish - best yogurt I’ve ever had! It’s loaded with probiotics too so that’ll help! Around here I can get plain or vanilla but I hear they have blueberry and honey in other locations. I get Oikos.

And, yes, plurk sounds like a tooth being yanked out! :-)

23 Amy Derby 08.21.08 at 2:42 pm

Ew. Just thinking about yogurt makes me sick. :-| To each his own, I guess. :-)

I’ve never had a root canal either, but I had my wisdom teeth pulled and that hurt like hell. And I can’t imagine this feeling too good. But I’m looking forward to getting it over with.

24 Michele 08.21.08 at 2:49 pm

Ha ha! I never cared much for yogurt either but this Greek kind is DIVINE! It’s totally different than regular yogurt and it’s organic. I’ve had it sweetened with honey and topped with fresh blueberries and almonds or walnuts, etc. I’ve also used it plain to make guacamole or fruit smoothies. Yum-O! hehehe

Well, hopefully it will be over with quickly and heal even quicker. Positive thinking! :-)

Yes, please say a prayer for me tomorrow around noon. And one for the dentist so I don’t rip his head off or kick him someplace…. I don’t do very well when in pain. :-)

26 Friar 08.21.08 at 2:56 pm

@Amy

Foods to stay away from after your root canal:

- Peanut Brittle
- Jaw Breakers
- Porcupine-on-a-Stick
- Boiled Prickly-Pear Cactus.
- Lego

Friar — Where does one buy a good porcupine-on-a-stick? (My bunnies eat legos all the time.)

28 Michele 08.21.08 at 3:29 pm

I will, Amy. You’ll be in my heart and prayers. That poor dentist will be, too. Hopefully he won’t feel your pain more than you do. hehehe And, maybe he won’t need an extra tooth or two by the time you leave. AND hopefully you won’t have to blog while in jail for harming another person! ;-)

Amy, welcome to Twitterville! When I got your first tweet, I nearly fell over! Is it true, rebel Amy is tweeting? LOL! Don’t worry you are still a rebel and I’m sure will be changing the way we tweet. No more talk of urls and what’s for dinner, you are sure to have us tweeting in 120 characters (more efficient) and full sentences. Best of all we shall learn and laugh and know that the anti-tweeter has one upped us. :-)

30 Amy Derby 08.21.08 at 4:10 pm

Karen — HAHAHA. I’m not that efficient, believe me. I need bigger boxes. LOL
