A Positive Attitude Produces Positive Results

by Amy Derby on November 13, 2007

I’ll admit it; I’m not always the most positive person. Honestly, there are some days I would rather sit in solitary confinement and bang my head against a rubber wall than try to explain to a client for the 7th time that no, I don’t want any more assignments from him since he has yet to pay my first invoice. All sarcasm aside, though, I try to keep it all in perspective. For every bad raisin, there are usually two scoops of good ones.

To remain healthy while working from home, a positive mental outlook is as important as a physically healthy lifestyle. Going to the gym might keep you slim, but a positive attitude will reap professional, as well as personal, rewards. Incorporate these tips, and you might just see your attitude improve and your profits soar.

Celebrate Success

Celebrate your first byline, your 100th blog post, or your first month of freedom from your day job. Big or small, every step of success is significant.

Remember What’s Important

You started working at home to spend more time with your family, but do you? Carve out a few hours to attend your son’s soccer game, devote one afternoon each week to visiting your elderly grandmother, or take a week off and plan that romantic vacation with your significant other.

Give Something Back

As a writer, your skills and talents are almost naturally designed to benefit others. Contribute to a forum or start a blog for beginners. Volunteer at the local nursing home and read your short stories to the elderly. However you go about it, find some little way to give back. Not only will you be helping someone else, you’ll improve your reputation, and you’ll build positive relationships which could lead to more contacts and bigger business.

This is indeed great advice. It’s important to both reward yourself for success and give back whenever possible. Thanks for the reminder!

Wonderful entry, Amy! Sometimes it’s so easy to get bogged down in the day to day of ‘work’. It’s important to remember the little pleasures.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Amy! Great reminder to not take some things for granted. I don’t have a 100th blog post, but I’m going to celebrate when I finish NaBloPoMo. :)

Hi Grandy,

I just read about NaBloPoMo on someone else’s blog. Totally fun idea, and way more doable than writing a novel in a month. I’d need an (a)ssload of speed for that.
